David Short (CG Artist/TD)
David Short contributed to the Oscar® winning visual effects of "The Golden Compass" working at Framestore-CFC as the Lead Rigger for all the polar bears.
With approximately 15 years in computer graphics David has worked on 16 feature films including "The Golden Compass", 3 Harry Potter films, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", "Happy Feet" and "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring". He has also worked on more than 30 television commercials, 8 TV shows and 4 computer games in roles ranging from Lead Rigger and Lead Technical Director to 3D Animator. With this experience David has become a Creature and Character specialist.
When asked about his entrance to the computer graphics industry David tells; “I started out when I was 15 years old, making 2D video titles and bumper animation from a connection made through a teacher of mine back home in Adelaide South Australia”. On his progression through his career he adds; “I have been lucky in that I have been able to learn my trade in the industry, and privileged to learn from many a fine master along the way”.
David’s enthusiasm for the industry is evident in his additional study which includes courses in “Life Drawing” and “Anatomy for the Artist” at Julian Ashton’s Art School in Sydney Australia, Richard William’s “Animation Master Class” and Ed Hook’s “Acting for Animators”. His knowledge and skill is seen in all he creates and happily shared.
