Anthony Morales
Working at Ghost Production house as 3D animator
1. In which way are you currently involved with 3D? I work as a 3D animator at Ghost Digital Production House. I’ve been there for about a year now.
2. It is your dream job? Yes, it’s everything I ever dreamed it would be.
3. Which course or program did you attend at TRUEMAX? I attended the first four semesters of the 3D Digital Artist / 3D Game Artist program. I completed the last semester in summer 2005. Then I did my trainee semester at TRUEMAX, where I worked as an assistant instructor.
4. What is the most important thing you learned at TRUEMAX? Planning and discipline – the work processes that lie behind the creative aspects of 3D. And teamwork. It’s not enough just to be a good animator. You also have to know how to work with other people. I’m really finding this true in my current job.
5. What surprised you during your 3D program? It was surprising to find out just how much there is to know about 3D. I thought I had a pretty good idea of what could be done with 3D before I came to TRUEMAX. But there’s really no end to it.
6. How much 3D work had you done before you came to TRUEMAX? I had worked with 3ds max at home for a year, trying it out.
7. What made you choose a 3D course at the TRUEMAX academy? And how did you hear about TRUEMAX? I started at Grenaa Technical School in Digital Media, and decided that I wanted to work with 3D. So I did some searching on the internet and came across TRUEMAX, which looked promising – and professional. And that’s how I started.
8. What happened after TRUEMAX? How did you start working with 3D animation? First I worked as an assistant instructor at TRUEMAX for a few months. Then I applied to Ghost – some people I knew who worked there told me that they needed an animator. So I sent them a show reel, got an interview – and got the job.
9. Where do you see yourself five years from now? I would like to have my own company in the games industry, and I have started working in that direction in my spare time. Some friends and I are in the process of developing a game.
10. What advice would you give someone considering entering the 3D program at TRUEMAX? It takes a lot of self-discipline and you have to put a lot of time into it to be really good. Of course, it also helps to have skill at drawing. Taking a drawing course to prepare for the 3D program would be an excellent idea.
The interview was made July 2006. |
