Working at Ghost Production house as 3D animator
I work as a 3D animator at Ghost Digital Production House. I've
been there for about a year now.
Yes, it's everything I ever dreamed it would be.
I attended the first four semesters of the 3D Digital Artist / 3D
Game Artist program. I completed the last semester in summer 2005.
Then I did my trainee semester at TRUEMAX, where I worked as an
assistant instructor.
Planning and discipline - the work processes that lie behind the
creative aspects of 3D. And teamwork. It's not enough just to be a
good animator. You also have to know how to work with other people.
I'm really finding this true in my current job.
It was surprising to find out just how much there is to know about
3D. I thought I had a pretty good idea of what could be done with
3D before I came to TRUEMAX. But there's really no end to it.
I had worked with 3ds max at home for a year, trying it out.
I started at Grenaa Technical School in Digital Media, and decided
that I wanted to work with 3D. So I did some searching on the
internet and came across TRUEMAX, which looked promising - and
professional. And that's how I started.
First I worked as an assistant instructor at TRUEMAX for a few
months. Then I applied to Ghost - some people I knew who worked
there told me that they needed an animator. So I sent them a show
reel, got an interview - and got the job.
I would like to have my own company in the games industry, and I
have started working in that direction in my spare time. Some
friends and I are in the process of developing a game.
It takes a lot of self-discipline and you have to put a lot of time
into it to be really good. Of course, it also helps to have skill
at drawing. Taking a drawing course to prepare for the 3D program
would be an excellent idea.
